Daniel Baker is an Floridian anarchist political prisoner from Tallahassee who issued a call to arms to defend the Florida Capitol on January 20th, 2021, from far-right elements, in the fallout of the January 6th insurrection only having taken place 2 weeks before. For this, his apartment was broken into by FBI agents, who broke down the door and threw flashbangs at Baker with their guns drawn. He was then sentenced on May 6th 2021 to 44 months in federal prison for “threatening to kidnap or injure another person”, and has an expected release date of December 2024.
Baker is a US Navy veteran who also served as a part of the Kurdish YPG force as an international anarchist volunteer, where he fought on the frontlines of the war against ISIS in Syria as a sniper.
While in prison, Baker has been incarcerated at the Memphis Federal Correctional Institution, subject to physical attacks and medical neglect in the Special Housing Unit (solitary confinement).
Baker has been deprived of necessary medical care and supplies, such as an inhaler and new glasses, and has a lack of access to calls and emails, even to his legal counsel. Prison administration has also engaged in discriminatory retaliation against him, interfering with his release date and the post-release housing process.
